Research Alliance for Wind Energy

The continued advances in professionalization which have been made in the wind energy industry over the last few years  increasingly qualify themselves as the global forerunner in innovative and long lasting product development and set the standards for accompanying and supporting research. Highest demands on a well-founded and  secure development of competitive and innovative products for extreme environmental and operational conditions are the challenges which wind energy research and development have to meet. Wind energy turbines are complex products which unite knowledge from a wide range of natural and scientific and engineering disciplines.

The Wind Energy Research Association (FVWE), comprising the partners  DLR, ForWind – Zentrum für Windenergieforschung (Wind Energy Research Centre)  and the Fraunhofer IWES, sets itself exactly these challenges. The research association provides the wind energy industry globally unique innovation potentials through bundling its proved expertise and outstanding research infrastructures.  The FVWE is the ideal technology development partner for both manufacturers and operators alike  from conception to product launch, from design, using the virtual methods of, for example, experimental testing and model validation, right up to production automation.

Furthermore, the FVWE has over 600 researchers who can deal competently and in depth with all  the systematic  issues of this fast-growing global  energy supply pillar. The research creates quantifiable and cost reducing added values - from increasing efficiency and shortening secured developments up to certification, manufacturing optimization and operational failsafe performance.

The three partner collaboration enables  uncomplicated access  to a world-wide unique infrastructure, assures the technological transfer from the aeronautical industry and guarantees the link to university research and teaching.
