From the lecture hall to research and getting a taste of practical experience

Do you want to gain practical experience alongside your studies? We offer various opportunities.

Student assistantship

At the IWES, you can gather some practical experience and play an active part in projects while completing your studies. We offer you a wide range of activities in a variety of specialist fields as well as a motivated team that is always there to help you and offer professional support. You can contribute both your knowledge and your ideas to help write our success story. We would love you to become a part of the IWES!

Internship

Are you looking for a suitable internship where you can get actively involved and gather practical experience? Do you want to gain an insight into research and project work while continuing your own further development at the same time? We want to support you in your professional and personal development while offering you the opportunity to gain an insight into the world of the IWES and wind energy research. You can complete a voluntary or mandatory internship here and actively help us to shape the future of wind energy.

Final thesis

The final thesis is often the core element of a degree program. We want to support you during this exciting time and therefore offer you the opportunity to write your thesis at the IWES alongside your work as a student assistant or following on from your internship. You will have access to our data and test benches, meaning you can carry out your research at our institute. Plus, we will be close by at all times to offer help and advice.

Flexible working hours
Studying can take up a lot of your time and be truly exhausting – we are well aware of that. For that reason, you can coordinate your working hours individually with your team. We will find a way to work together!

Onboarding program
Do you want to understand how the processes at the institute work? No problem – we organize a range of events that provide you with all the important information right from the very beginning to help you get directly acclimatized here. There are also named contact persons available to answer any questions you have and offer you support. In addition, you also receive instruction in our internal systems. So, there is nothing standing in the way of a successful start!

Working together as equals
Each of us makes an important contribution to the IWES’ success. As such, working together as equals is something which goes without saying for us. We have established flat hierarchies, are on first-name terms, and encourage collaborative and dynamic teamwork.

Comprehensive support
During your work here, be that as a student assistant or in the form of an internship, you will not be left alone. Naturally, we will also offer you support in the preparation of your thesis. You will have a supervisor by your side to help you with your concerns, but other colleagues and students will also be there for you.

Networking and development events
Depending on your field of work, you can complete training courses and join the IWES student network. The Fraunhofer-wide »Hiwi-Days« are also held once a year. This event offers you the chance to learn more about the diversity of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, meet interesting people, and take advantage of the advice and workshops on offer for your career orientation. The Fraunhofer-Talent Take Off and the Fraunhofer Science Campus might also be of interest to you.

Our IWES spirit as the key to success
