Application Center for Integration of Local Energy Systems

Concepts for safe and reliable energy supply are important for a sustainable future. The Fraunhofer Application Center ILES was founded at the end of 2020 and investigates systematic aspects of the production of green hydrogen via electrolysis in cooperation with its partner, the Competence Center for Renewable Energies and Energy Efficiency (CC4E) at Hamburg University of Applied Sciences. The focus of the research is on the modeling and control of decentralized and local energy systems. These considerations help to improve reliability and efficiency, thus saving costs. Research into cross-sectoral applications in the field of hydrogen technology is important, as they enable analysis of the interactions of numerous local energy systems and the optimization of their operation. The data basis for these analyses is compiled from measurements performed on MW electrolyzers at the hydrogen labs in Bremerhaven, Leuna, and Görlitz as well as measurements from industrial projects. The Application Center ILES, located in Hamburg-Bergedorf, is home to a team of interdisciplinary scientists and brings together a wide range of competences.
